Ballroom on the
Square Students Make a Strong Showing at One of the Region’s Biggest
Competitions
(Lancaster, PA) – Ballroom on the Square, Lancaster’s
premier ballroom dance studio, showed that their students have what it takes to
compete at the top level with strong finishes at the Capital Dancesport
Championships held in the Washington, DC metro region recently. The competition
– one of the largest on the East Coast with over 6800 entries this year –
featured dancers from all over the country and even a few from abroad. The
studio’s professional instructor, Kenneth Wilson, took three amateur students
to the Capital Dancesport Championships, and all of them placed.
Marybeth Hambleton of Lancaster competed in the American
Smooth and Rhythm divisions in Intermediate Bronze; Margie Hess of Conestoga competed Full Bronze American Smooth and Intermediate
Silver American Rhythm; Eleanor Isaacson of Willow Valley competed in Full
Bronze American Smooth and Open Bronze American Smooth. The Smooth division
dances include waltz, tango, foxtrot and Viennese waltz; Rhythm includes cha
cha, rumba, swing, bolero and mambo.
Expertly partnered by Ken Wilson, all of the ladies
placed in the top three among fierce competition. In addition, Ken showed off
his skills with a brand new partner, amateur dancer Gina Kazimir of Bel Air,
Maryland, when her professional instructor was injured. With only minutes to
practice, the couple, who had never danced together, competed in the American
Smooth Three Dance Championship.
